Agia is the seat of the homonymous municipality with a population of 3027 and is located at the foot of Kissavos, at an altitude of 250 meters in the lush Dotio Plain. It is 37 km away from Larissa, flowing through the stream Amyros that comes from the bottom of Kissavos.

The morphology of the soil and the euphoria of the place were the causes of the early – in prehistoric times – occupation of the site of Agia.
The prehistoric settlement of Agia dates back to the early and middle Bronze Age. It is located in the place of Kostari, about 1 km east of Agia, 300m. northwest of the chapel of Ag. Athanasiou. It is a prominent hill with smooth access from the south and to the north and east it flows through the Dove. Successive enclosures with dry stone form the boundaries of today’s fields and support gradual anchors.

The name Agia came from Agia (= road), and was formerly associated with Apollo Agias.

Other writers have argued that the name must be derived from the Arabic-Turkish word ajan, which means head village, the seat of the ancients, and others labeled it by the adjective saint, omitting some noun. In the years of the Turkish occupation he was mentioned by a Swedish traveler in 1779 and I.
